2013 Northwest Innovative Schools Network Conference

Please mark your calendar for the 3rd annual Innovative Schools Conference, October 11, 2013 in Gervais:

The Northwest Innovative Schools Network (NWISN) Conference was developed to address isolation expressed by alternative school educators and provides professional development and networking on Oregon statewide inservice day.

The one-day conference is held annually at Gervais High School in Gervais, Oregon where approximately 150 staff from innovative schools gather and attend workshops focused on professional learning designed to support alternative school educators and administrators.

The 2013 NWISN Conference “Developing Skills for Life” will offer a similar format to previous years with a low cost that includes lunch and breakout sessions on the Common Core Standards, GED Option Programs, implications of brain research for specialized programs, career-related learning, credit by proficiency, social media and online/blended learning, ...MORE

Discipline Incidents Collection Opens May 16 for 2012-13 school year

The Discipline Incidents collection opens May 16, 2013 and closes July 1, 2013. Information and details will be posted as they become available.

All Oregon school districts are required to complete this data collection. District level staff responsible for the discipline data are required to complete the district submission through the Consolidated Collections on the Applications menu after logging in through the district’s website. Information on the collection is available at. 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant Peer Reviewers Recruitment

New Round of 21st Century Community Learning Center Grants Available

SALEM – Today the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) has opened the next competition for $9.5 million in funds for 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) grants. This program supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools. The program helps students meet state and local standards in core academic subjects such as reading and math, provides students with a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs, and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children.

Eligible entities include, but are not limited to, school districts, education service districts, community colleges, faith-based and community organizations, charter schools and city and county agencies. Schools and community organizations are encouraged to apply as partners.
