ODE would like to update the science assessment web page with new student anchor papers &lt;b&gt;for Scientific Inquiry and Engineering Design&lt;/b&gt; at all benchmark levels and needs educators in the field to send in sample student papers.

							Next Generation Science Standards and Oregon Science Education Update

							In April 2013,  the final &lt;a href=&quot;http://www.nextgenscience.org/next-generation-science-standards&quot;&gt;Next Generation Science Standards&lt;/a&gt; (NGSS), a new set of voluntary, rigorous, and internationally benchmarked standards for K-12 science education, were released.  During the coming months, the Oregon State Board of Education will determine whether to adopt the NGSS.  Oregon Department of Education staff, in collaboration with a science content and assessment advisory group, will review the final NGSS and provide analysis, including a comparison to Oregon’s current  Science Academic Content Standards, as well as develop a timeline for adoption, transition, implementation, and assessment.

Should the State Board adopt the Next Generation Science Standards, it is important to remember that adoption does not mean instant implementation.
