							This draft of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) will be available for public feedback from January 8 through 29, 2013.  This is the last public review period before the standards are completed in March 2013.  We fully encourage all interested parties to review the draft NGSS as individuals or in groups and provide feedback to the Lead States and writers.

							Encourage High School Seniors to Apply for the National Youth Science Camp!

							Two high school seniors from each state will receive a full scholarship to exchange ideas with scientists and other professionals from the academic and corporate worlds.  The nearly month-long experience includes lectures and hands-on research projects presented by scientists from across the nation; overnight camping trips into the Monogahela National Forest; and a visit to Washington D.C.  
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
The NYSC experience is offered at no cost to its participants, so that selected delegates may attend regardless of their financial status.  Educational and recreational programming, as well as meals, lodging, and round-trip air passage on scheduled airlines are provided free of charge.
&lt;br/&gt;
&lt;br/&gt;
Delegates arrive in Charleston, West Virginia, on Thursday, June 26, and depart on Sunday, July 20, 2013.  The NYSC is held near Bartow in the eastern mountains of West Virginia, within the Monongahela National Forest. 							Nominate an Outstanding Science Teacher for the Presidential Award!

							The Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) is the highest recognition that a kindergarten through 12th grade mathematics or science teacher may receive for outstanding teaching in the United States.  The 2012-2013 nomination period for 7-12 grade mathematics and science teachers for the PAEMST program is currently open.  Anyone--principals, teachers, parents, students, or members of the general public--may nominate exceptional math or science teachers teaching grades 7-12 for the 2012-13 Award Year.  Teachers may also apply directly at &lt;a href=&quot;http://www.paemst.org&quot;&gt;www.paemst.org&lt;/a&gt;.  The Nomination Deadline is April 1, 2013.  The Application Deadline is May 1, 2013 for secondary school teachers (Grades 7-12).  Elementary school teachers (Grades K-6) are eligible to apply in the next cycle in 2013-14.
