George Washington Teachers' Institute Applications Now Being Accepted

Applications are now being accepted for the George Washington Teachers' Institute. The Institute will provide a one-week study program at George Washington's home, Mount Vernon, in northern Virginia, for four Oregon teachers from public and non-public schools, teaching grades 3 through 12. Click for the application form.

Applications must be completed and postmarked by April 5, 2013.

Nominate an Outstanding Science Teacher for the Presidential Award!

The Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) is the highest recognition that a kindergarten through 12th grade mathematics or science teacher may receive for outstanding teaching in the United States. The 2012-2013 nomination period for 7-12 grade mathematics and science teachers for the PAEMST program is currently open. Anyone--principals, teachers, parents, students, or members of the general public--may nominate exceptional math or science teachers teaching grades 7-12 for the 2012-13 Award Year. Teachers may also apply directly at www.paemst.org. The Nomination Deadline is April 1, 2013. The Application Deadline is May 1, 2013 for secondary school teachers (Grades 7-12). Elementary school teachers (Grades K-6) are eligible to apply in the next cycle in 2013-14. For more information about the PAEMST, visit www.paemst.org. Mentor Academy Professional Development Opportunities

The Oregon Department of Education in collaboration with The New Teacher Center is offering the Mentor Academy Year One Sessions: Foundation in Mentoring and Formative Assessment, Coaching and Observation & Setting Professional Goals, and Analysis of Student Work.

This training is a requirement for district personnel participating in the Oregon Mentoring Project; however, all districts are encouraged to send personnel who mentor/coach beginning educators.

All Sessions will be held in two locations: Seaside and Salem. Please see the flyer for registration and location details. For additional information please feel free to contact ODE staff.

CPPT Training: Moving From Self Evaluation To Planning

This is a follow-up searies for newly identified focus schools only.

This half-day training is currently being offered at three different locations to assist new focus school teams on the use of the on-line Customized Planning Process Tool (CPPT) as required for completing the next step in the planning process. At least two members of each school team must bring a laptop with them to this event in order to participate in the training activities. Please be sure to connect with fellow team members planning on attending this training to ensure this requirement is met.
